I've improved a lot of the mechanics of both the player and the enemies and have found myself tweaking a lot of the games puzzles to take advantage of the better engine. Doing an entire remake of my own game is providing me with a lot of opportunities to fix mistakes I made the first time around.

I've been working on HUDs and menus for the past week, but looking forward to coding a boss battle this weekend!

The team's current venture.

We're remaking Treasure Adventure Game. It's crazy to think I originally designed these levels back in 2008 and I'm still finding ways to improve them. I thought it would be fun to show some comparison shots.

I remember what inspired me to make a game. I was on a fishing trip on a beautiful lake in Quebec. Besides fishing there was little else to do, so I brought my laptop for some gaming. This was 2008 and I was playing a lot of Knytt Stories, Cave Story and Alex Adventure - all indie games made by 1 person (I think they were, anyway). I saw a dead tree sticking out over the lake, filled with spiders and other bugs, and I just started putting a game together in my head. When I got back from that trip I downloaded Multimedia Fusion 2 which is the successor to the only other game development tool I had used as a kid, Klik and Play. I began working on a game called Karma. That first screen shot was taken just weeks after I started designing games. That game was never finished but was transformed into Treasure Adventure Game. Now we're doing it again...

Secrets among friends

So, there are some very exciting things happening with me at the moment. Some of them I can't yet talk about but hopefully will be able to shortly.

First. There is a secret project in the works. I'm working with another indie game development team and it's going to be fantastic. Hopefully I'll be able to reveal more about this very soon.

NovaraX is being developed but at a much slower rate to make time for the new project. Brian (@StudioWaveland), who's doing music for the game sent me the first track. It's got a great sci-fi feel and it gives the game a great mood.

I had some inspiration for another side-project. It's a single-screen arcade style platform shooter. I decided to work on a protoype and share it with you. I think I'm going to take this prototype further so I'd appreciate any feedback you have. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28484936/planet_builds/build_0.0.1/index.html

In personal news: my gal-pal got a job in Bronx, NY so it looks like we'll be moving to the greatest city on earth. I'm very excited about this. Living in NY has been something I've always wanted to do. Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet some other NY-based game developers. We'll be moving in late July. In the mean time I'm going to soak up the Virginia sun, fresh air and mountain views.

That's just a short update about what's going on with me.

Regarding the secret project; I'm sorry I can't tell you more but I'll just say, if you're a fan of my previous work, you will like this.

Video Post-Mortem Series

I've been recording a series of videos that are essentially a post-mortem of Treasure Adventure Game in video form. I play through the game and give some insight into the development process, answer fan questions and ramble about other things. I don't know how far this series will go, but I'll keep it up as long as it's interesting and people have questions for me to answer. I'll keep this post updated with the entire play-list of videos. Here they are:

Part 1 (audio quality is poor - it gets better in the other videos)

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4
